Clubrooms Working B
Recently HAMST members gathered at the clubrooms for a general working B. This was another great time for around a dozen members working together to tidy the clubrooms, kitchen, vehicles and paint our container. A special thanks to Britt at Wattyl paints and her team for suppling the paint for the container and Richard for a sensational lunch of satay chicken and rice. Thank you so much for those who were able to assist for a few hours.
Queenstown Visit
Last weekend members visited a fellow member, Matt at Queenstown where we were able to spend some quality time in his shed. Matt has an impressive collection of Weapons carriers including a Command car. Matt has a wealth of knowledge and it was a real privilege to be able to visit and spend some time with him. The highlight of the visit was certainly a zip around the streets of Queenstown as passengers in the Command car. Thanks Matt, it was a great day.
New Addition To HAMST Stable
Recently HAMST members received a call of a local 1945 Ford Jeep that had been stored for the last 40 years. On inspection this time capsule was able to be acquired by members where it will be slowly restored to pristine condition. This is a great find and another invaluable military vehicle to be paraded at Remembrance events in the future.
War Animals Remembrance Campbell town
This year we were once again invited to support the War Animals Remembrance in Campbell town. Several members and two vehicles attended representing HAMST which was much apricated by the organizers. The event was well supported by military groups and as always it is great to catch up with our northern friends to support these events. Thank you Terese for organizing this and many living history events year after year to ensure our military history is never forgotten. Special mention to Andy & Pete for supplying their Jeep & Landrover after a very bumpy trip I'm sure!
1804 Hobart Settlers Annual floral Tribute
Once again HAMST members were privileged to be invited as part of the annual Floral tribute at the Hobart wharf memorial today. Derrick, Dave, John (representing HAMST) and our northern friends Terese & James all took part by way of period uniforms and the laying a floral wreath on behalf of members. Although this is a relatively modest memorial it is still an important part of our history and the establishment of Hobart. We look forward to assisting with this ceremony for many years to come.
Bunnings Mornington, Christmas Community Event
Last Thursday members of our Historical Military Vehicle Group were invited to be part of this annual Christmas family event. The event was held in the carport of Bunnings Mornington with a variety of community displays for families to enjoy. We were able to display the DUKW and Pete's Landover next to our good friends from Legacy. The event attracted many families who enjoyed and participated in the displays during the evening. Special thanks to Barry, Pete, Robbie and in particular Robbie's mum who once again stole the show.
